Day 4: Becoming a Child

This image shows one of our avatars transformed into a child. . . we used child “skins” and “shapes” to make our avatars appear to be the ages some of our movie characters were meant to be.

Buildings for Sets 4-6

Buildings for Sets 1-3

Sets 1-3 were located in two buildings: a red schoolhouse for Set 1 and a 2-level house for Set 2 (bottom floor) and Set 3 (top floor).

Day 3: Practicing the Scripts

During our April 24th session, students dressed their avatars in costume and walked around their preliminary sets to practice and finalize their scripts. Any requested changes to the sets were emailed to the instructor so she could add or subtract props before the May 1st shoot. Above is one of the more colorful characters developed by the students.

Visit from Afar

At the end of our second session in SL, two students from a university in Italy came to visit. They were doing research on educational uses of SL by Americans. Educational organizations in the USA use SL differently than many Europeans do, apparently – an interesting thought! Although they surprised us at first, everyone was impressed that one of them glowed (literally) and that our Italian friends were dressed in stunning clothes!

Day 2: Planning our PSAs

Today, we logged in to U Delaware II island to do some initial planning for our PSA movies. First, we formed groups of 4-5 in class, and picked topics for our technology-related public service announcements. Then we logged into SL to check out the types of props that are available for use in our PSAs.

EDUC387 Enters Second Life

First day of EDUC387 in Second Life for Spring 2008. We entered via NMC’s Orientation Island, edited our avatars, and then took a trip over to UD Island.
